Why Should You Blog?

Many people will tell you why you should blog. While blogging is fueled by a lot of “get rich quick”, “attain ultimate fame”, and “turn your business around with blogging” scenarios there is much more to think about than dollar signs and red carpet appearances. Don’t get me wrong, there is money to be made and fame to be had blogging. That, however, is the byproduct of hard work, dedication, and passion towards your topic. In reality, you should be asking yourself “What am I passionate about and why should I blog about it?” As opposed to someone telling you simply why you should.
You may want to blog:
- For FUN – Blogging doesn’t have to be work. In fact that’s why I urge you to start with something you have a passion for. When you first get started don’t worry about how much you post. Focus on quality content and topics you’re exceptionally interested in. This will not only keep you motivated to blog but your readership will thank you for it as well.
- To fill a niche – You may have a passion for home decorating or know 101 different ways to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. There’s quite a few people in this world and you might be surprised how many people would like to know or share your same interest.
- To teach others – Underwater basket weaving might be your thing! Alright, I understand that’s a little random. Self help sites really empower people and will quickly build a following for yourself. They not only feel good because they’re learning something new but you’ll feel great about it too.
- To keep people up to date – It may be sports updates, the latest technology, or political agenda. If you set up a one stop shop for people to get specific updates, “they will come!”
- To network with others – It actually surprised me when we started TechTremor how many incredible people we met with right off the bat. I think half the fun was just interacting and getting to know these people, their brands, and their passions. If you’re going to blog make sure you take the time to appreciate the people who have taken the time out of their day to read your material. As I said, it can really be a rewarding opportunity.
- To promote your business – Blogging is a great way for you to connect with your clients. After all its you, or someone in your company, talking about what you do best. It breathes life and humanity into your online reputation and gives you clients an easy way to communicate with you.
- To talk about YOU - Personal blogs can give you a fun way to wind down for the day, fill a lunch break, or stimulate your brain in the morning. It’s not only fun to do but archives your life, like an online journal, which can easily be shared with friends and family.
These are just a few of the reasons why you might dive into blogging. Often you’ll find yourself blogging for many of these reasons.
So what are you passionate about?
